In the spring of 2011, The Rocking Unicorn Nursery School was awarded a Welch's Harvest Grant in the amount of $500.00 to start a school gardening program. And so began a unique garden designed for the children to "Use Your Five Senses Through the Four Seasons". An area of the property was fenced in and three raised bed gardens were created. A rain barrel was purchased from the Cooperative Extension to teach the children about conserving water.
We have an herb garden, a vegetable garden, and a flower garden. We use a composter to create our own organic soil using the fruit and vegetable scraps from our lunches and snacks. Each child creates a unique stepping stone to placed in the garden. Please visit our photo gallery to see the creation of the garden and it's results!
